If so, you know that these ships are magni  cent. Built from wood, with their tall masts and white sails billowing in the wind, sailing vessels from the 1400s–1800s are beau � ful examples of human achievement using materials from God’s world.

Before the steam engine was invented, ships were powered by wind or by oars. To be powered by the wind, a ship must have sails a � ached to masts.
